The film

Odile translates letters for a living, usually on the overnight train between Lyon and the coast, where nobody talks and the coffee is terrible. One night a bundle arrives addressed to a stranger, and she answers the first one before she can talk herself out of it.

Ellison shoots almost everything through glass: carriage windows, café windows, the little window in a post office door. It is a film about the people we write to when we cannot say it out loud.

Why we’re showing it

We saw it at a festival in the spring and could not stop talking about it in the car. It plays from a brand new 35mm print, which is exactly how it was meant to look.
